Anthropic reported $33.24 billion in revenue for the nine months ended Sept. 30, up roughly 1,200% from the same period last year, according to an amended Form S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company generated approximately $17 billion in third-quarter revenue alone, up about 1,127% year-over-year.
The AI company reported a $104 billion net loss during the nine-month period, though most of that stemmed from changes in fair value of convertible notes and derivative liabilities. Third-quarter net loss reached $23.29 billion.
Quarter-to-quarter revenue growth slowed notably. Q3 revenue increased around 47%, down from 144% growth in Q2 and 132% in Q1.
Anthropic disclosed $895.4 billion in purchase commitments and lease agreements, with substantially all of that spending related to compute and infrastructure. Compute and infrastructure expenses rose $14.4 billion for the nine-month period, up 329% compared to last year. The company obtains much of its compute capacity from Amazon, Google, and SpaceX, and also relies on neoclouds for additional capacity.
The filing signals Anthropic moves closer to its IPO. CEO Dario Amodei co-founded the company with other researchers who left OpenAI. Anthropic's S-1 includes more than 90 pages of risk factors, including political headwinds and balancing safety with commercial objectives.
