Google Chrome offers a new warning system that flags websites appearing suspicious based on patterns of known malicious sites. The alerts arrive as smaller pop-ups reading "This site doesn't seem right" with options to mark the site as safe or return to safety.

These suspicious site warnings differ from Chrome's full-page red alerts for definitively dangerous sites. The suspicious alerts indicate possible risk rather than confirmed danger. Google deems the site risky because it resembles other known malware or phishing sources, but Chrome lacks full confidence the site itself is malicious.

The warnings operate through Enhanced Protection mode in Chrome's Safe Browsing feature. Standard protection checks your browsing activity, extensions, and downloads against Google's periodically updated list of unsafe sites. Enhanced protection works in real time using AI analysis.

Enabling Enhanced Protection requires sharing more information about your activity with Google, and the data links to your Google Account. Privacy-conscious users may hesitate at this tradeoff. However, the feature may benefit users less familiar with advanced scam tactics who might enter credentials or financial information on malicious sites.

To enable Enhanced Protection, open Chrome settings, navigate to Privacy and security, and toggle Enhanced protection on under the Safe Browsing section.
