Spotify is requiring Family and Duo plan members to verify their location using QR codes or address confirmation. Users who receive a verification prompt must complete it within seven days or lose access to their shared plan for a full year.

The verification process works two ways. Users can re-enter their address if Spotify cannot confirm their location. Alternatively, the plan manager can generate a QR code through Profile > Your Premium > Manage, which plan members scan with their phone camera. Spotify says both users must be in the same physical location to complete the QR code scan, and the code changes every few seconds.

If you miss the seven-day deadline, you will be downgraded to a free plan. Spotify allows you to rejoin the same Family or Duo plan later, but you cannot join a different shared plan for a full year.

Some users have reported finding workarounds using video calls and multiple devices to complete the scans, according to 9to5Google.
