Costco's return policy sets it apart from most retailers. The company offers a "risk-free 100% satisfaction guarantee" that allows you to return many items at any time, even years after purchase. This applies to clothes and small appliances.

The policy has exceptions. Electronics and major appliances like televisions, refrigerators, and dishwashers have a 90-day refund window. Items with limited useful life, such as tires and batteries, may have specific warranties. Gold and silver are nonrefundable.

To return items, visit the returns counter at a Costco warehouse. If you bought something online, you can still return it in person or start the process on the company's website. Costco says it helps to have a receipt or original packaging, but says that is likely not necessary.

Costco's membership model may give the company flexibility with returns. Members pay $65 upfront annually, and some returned products can be resold in stores or secondary markets. The retailer reportedly started cracking down on returns earlier this year.
