American Express rolled out visual icons on its Resy restaurant reservation platform to help cardholders spot dining credits more easily. The update adds small symbols next to restaurants that offer eligible credits, removing the guesswork when browsing for a meal.
The change comes as AmEx integrates Tock, a competing reservation platform it acquired, into Resy's ecosystem. Tock brings additional restaurants onto the platform, expanding the pool of venues where cardholders can deploy their credits.
For AmEx card owners, this matters. Several premium AmEx cards offer dining credits as cardholder benefits. The Platinum Card gives users a $15 monthly dining credit for Resy purchases. The Gold Card provides a $120 annual restaurant credit split across the Resy and Tock platforms. Finding restaurants where these credits apply used to require trial and error or manual searching.
The icon system streamlines the process. Cardholders now spot credit-eligible restaurants immediately while browsing reservations. This removes friction from actually using benefits they're paying for through annual fees. Premium AmEx cards charge $695 yearly for Platinum and $250 for Gold, so maximizing their perks directly impacts net value.
The Tock integration strengthens AmEx's position in online dining reservations. Tock reaches independent and fine-dining restaurants that Resy might not cover as thoroughly. By combining both platforms, AmEx expands credit redemption options for its 300-plus cardholders, making the benefits more practical for more restaurants nationwide.
This move reflects a broader shift toward making premium card benefits easier to use. Cardholders often fail to capitalize on specific perks simply because claiming them remains too complicated. Clear visual cues solve that problem instantly.
For casual diners, this update has little impact. For premium AmEx cardholders actively using Resy for reservations, the icon
