# Chase's Q3 2026 Bonus Categories Target Summer Spending
Chase is rotating its 5% cash back bonus categories for the third quarter of 2026, offering enhanced rewards on summer travel and entertainment expenses. The new categories include gas stations and electric vehicle (EV) charging, public transit, live entertainment, and United Way donations.
This quarterly rotation applies to Chase Freedom Flex cardholders, who earn 5% cash back (up to $1,500 in combined purchases per quarter, then 1% thereafter) on two rotating categories each quarter. The current categories favor summer travelers and entertainment seekers.
Gas and EV charging represents the broadest appeal for Q3. Drivers filling up traditional vehicles or charging electric cars both qualify. With summer road trips underway, this category captures both highway travel and daily commutes during peak driving season.
Public transit covers buses, trains, taxis, ride-shares, and parking. This benefits urban commuters and travelers using subways or regional rail systems during the summer months.
Live entertainment includes concerts, sporting events, theaters, and amusement parks. As summer brings major concert tours, baseball games, and family vacation activities, Chase positions this category to reward vacation spending.
The United Way category allows cardholders to earn 5% cash back on charitable donations to the nonprofit.
Cardholders must activate each bonus category through the Chase app or website to earn the 5% rate. Without activation, purchases earn only 1% cash back. The $1,500 quarterly cap means you earn 5% on the first $1,500 in combined spending across both categories, then revert to 1% after that threshold.
Chase Freedom Flex charges no annual fee. Cardholders earn 3% cash back on dining and drugstores year-round, plus 1% on all other purchases. The rotating
