Google has launched "Continue On," a feature that mirrors Apple's Handoff functionality for Android users. The tool allows people to start a task on one Android device and seamlessly resume it on another connected device.

The feature works across phones, tablets, and other Android gadgets linked to the same Google account. When you open an app on your primary device, a notification appears on your secondary device offering to continue where you left off. This applies to web browsing, document editing, email composition, and other compatible apps.

Google rolled out Continue On gradually through the Google Play Services update, meaning most Android devices running recent software versions now have access. Unlike Apple's Handoff, which requires devices to be physically near each other, Continue On works across any distance as long as devices share the same Wi-Fi network or mobile connection.

The practical benefit for Android users is clear. If you're drafting an email on your phone during a commute and want to finish it on a tablet at home, you simply tap the Continue On notification. Your message, formatting, and cursor position transfer instantly. The same applies to Google Chrome browsing, Google Docs editing, and YouTube video playback.

This feature particularly helps people juggling multiple Android devices. Parents managing household tablets and phones benefit. Professionals using both a work phone and a personal tablet gain efficiency. Remote workers switching between devices throughout the day see real productivity gains.

Google hasn't announced all compatible apps yet, but the feature prioritizes Google's own ecosystem first, including Gmail, Chrome, Messages, and Drive. Third-party developers can integrate Continue On support through Google's developer tools.

The rollout addresses a long-standing Android disadvantage. Apple users have enjoyed Handoff since 2014, creating friction for those comparing ecosystems. Android's late arrival still closes a meaningful gap in device continuity.

For Android owners with multiple devices, Continue On removes friction from daily workflows
